Add the ability to scrobble iPod plays after a sync

Love the app, but I have a question. Does simplescrobbler scrobble iPod plays reflected in "Recently Played" playlist after a sync? I haven't tried yet, I suppose that is the simple way to answer a question about a simple app. Hopefully not an annoying question - thanks!

    I’m happy to help
SimpleScrobbler does not currently do this. In an effort to make the app as simple as possible, we felt that customers could scrobble from their iPods directly using any of the existing scrobbling options. I will, however, change this topic to an idea so other can chime in as well.

Thanks for the prompt reply - I agree that simple is good and I certainly understand limiting the features for that reason. I'm looking for as simple a way as possible to have everything I play in iTunes get scrobbled. The version of CoverSutra I had appeared to have broken after an upgrade to a new machine and Lion and so I turned to the app store and your app. It does what it says, does it well and unobtrusively, but I'd rather not look to a second app to scrobble plays from my iPod Classic when I use it. Thanks again.

  • I've been looking for an alternative to the official Last.fm client as well (just scrobble tracks, nothing else!), but really need device support to be integrated on my mac. Using third party apps on the iPhone, for example, will not increase the playcount in iTunes; plays get pushed to Last.fm, but not my own computer!

    • Oh, it is! Using Apple's official Music app is just fine (playcounts are updated in iTunes), but third-party apps running in iOS appear to not have permission to update the iTunes library in any way...including playcount. I could have easily missed something, but I'm pretty sure this is a documented limitation of the library access offered to developers.

Which means on the mobile front, it's either/or - you can scrobble to Last.fm or keep your iTunes playcounts up-to-date, but not both...at least, not without a desktop application that bridges the gap between iTunes and Last.fm!
    • Unfortunately, with the current Apple sandboxing rules, SimpleScrobbler cannot read or write to the iTunes library. It can only operate by listening to iTunes notifications that are broadcast out to the system. If Apple changes this policy, we will implement this in a heartbeat.

Since so many of us listen via our iPhones/iPods, by making SimpleScrobbler able to scrobble plays from mobile devices after a sync, it effectively becomes a genuine alternative to the official client. But until then, it's not the one stop solution I'm looking for. Please implement! With a toggle, for those users who would like this feature switched off.
Why scrobble from my phone, transmitting data unnecessarily, when I can do it at home while my phone is charging and syncing?
Casting my eye over all the Scobbling apps available, this one holds the most promise - I think this is all that it is missing!

    • That's a shame - I was hoping to be able to scrobble after a sync as I listen to a lot more music on the go than I do at home. My old scrobble desktop app used to do this but stopped working - the new Mac sandboxing rules are probably why, so at least that's an explanation!
    • I'm not sure how they're handling the sandboxing rules, but Melo appears to be working well - it's been far more reliable than any other client I've tried in the past.
